POEM

The Anguished Cry Of a Book

I am beautiful, in brown leather bound
With my name engraved in golden letters bold
I occupy a privileged position
In the library collection.

They tell me I am necessary for education
Through me do people reach their dream destination
I enjoy such a terrific reputation.

I am friend ,philosopher, guide, all in one
Never have I let down anyone
Those who sought me out on a date
With information I gave them an update.

I have always given rich dividends
Considering all my customers as friends
And devoted my life to run their errands.

And yet, here I am left in isolation
Will no one seek me out from the new generation
I cry in utter desolation.

Alas, even my voice is only a croak
For dust and cobwebs make me choke
I am indeed in every way broke.

My fellow beings in similar situation
Offer me solace and consolation
They tell me ,Do get reconciled to loneliness and neglect
Don’t you understand, it’s the age of the computer and internet?

Shobha Vasudevan, P.G.T.(English)
