HELD AT KV INA

The trainees of International Diploma in Guidance and Counselling held a career conference cum exhibition at KV INA colony, New Delhi on 21st Feb. 2008 under the aegis of Dept. of Educational Psychology and Foundation of Education NCERT Delhi.

Smt. Nirmal Gupta, Professor NCERT was the chief guest along with her team of distinguished members from NCERT – Professor R.K. Saraswat, Dr. Kiran Mathur, Dr. G.K.Janeja, Dr.Kusum Sharma and resource persons from different professional fields like Banking, Architecture, Law and Media. All the guests were felicitated and welcomed by one of the trainees.

The programme began with a prayer to goddess Saraswati recited by the students of K.V. INA. The Principal , Mrs. Renu Sabharwal welcomed all the guests and expressed her gratitude to the NCERT, Dept of Educational Psychology and the trainees and hoped that this activity continues every year as it benefits both the students and the trainees. This was followed by the lighting of the lamp by the eminent guests.

Mrs. Nagpal and Dr. Sapna Kashyap, two trainees of the current session read the report of the year 2007-08. They informed the gathering that NCERT has been providing Guidance and Counseling since last 50 years. This year there were 37 trainees in all including 5 from Bhutan, 5 from Sri Lanka, 1 from Kuwait and the rest from all over India.

The trainees were divided into 6 groups of six candidates each and were allotted 6 Kendriya Vidyalayas to impart orientation talk, career talk, individual – group counseling etc. They concluded with the thought and wish that some provision is made in each school to have a counselor providing timely help when required.

Mrs. Nirmala Gupta, Professor then addressed the gathering. She too applauded the effort of this course as it gives opportunities to trainees to meet the students and get direct feedback. Children need professional help to acquaint themselves with the outside world while they are in the school. She was happy to announce that from next year a distance education course for teachers on Guidance and Counseling will commence. She then thanked the trainees for their efforts in making this exhibition a big success.

Dr. Saraswat expressed his view that seeing the present time of violence and aggressive attitude of children in schools, counseling facilities should be provided in every school.

Vote of thanks was given by a trainee from Bhutan. He thanked all the guests and Principal and quoted the famous lines of Robert Frost “miles to go before I sleep …… miles to go before I sleep”.

The programme ended by career talks given by different professionals from different fields namely Banking, Architecture and Law.

The students of class IX and XI were the beneficiaries of these talks. They also visited the exhibition and took information about different careers from the trainees. The resource persons answered many queries of the students and cleared their doubts.

On the whole the day ended with a healthy interaction between the speakers and students.
